Installation
How to Hang Your Swing Bed
We recommend professional installation by a licensed contractor. For those installing on their own, the guide below outlines the basic steps for hanging your ModHaven swing bed.
Position Your Swing Bed
Place your swing bed in the desired location and allow approximately 1 ft of clearance on all sides so it has room to move comfortably. More clearance is always better when space allows.
Locate the Ceiling Joists
Identify the ceiling joists or rafters closest to your desired hanging points. A stud finder, small pilot holes, attic access, a scope, or access through existing ceiling openings may help locate the structure. The ropes do not need to hang perfectly straight up and down for the swing to function properly.
Measure + Mark Your Hanging Points
Once the joists are located, measure and mark where you want to install the ceiling mounting hooks.
Drill + Install Ceiling Hardware
Drill pilot holes to install the ceiling hooks. Use a drill bit that is one size smaller than the ceiling hook.
Attach the Hanging Rope
Feed the rope through the ceiling hardware and secure each hanging point with properly tied knots.
Hang Your Swing Bed
Place the swing on sturdy supports, such as concrete blocks or 5-gallon buckets or something of similar height, at approximately your desired finished height. This supports the weight of the swing while the ropes are being positioned and secured.
Feed the ropes through the lower hanging points on the swing frame and tie the knots securely beneath the frame.
Level + Check Your Swing
Once all four ropes are secure and the swing is close to level as possible, carefully remove the supports. Adjust the ropes until the swing is level and sitting at your preferred height. Confirm all hooks, ropes, knots, and mounting points are secure.
Add Cushions + Enjoy
Add your cushions, get comfortable, and start enjoying your ModHaven swing bed.
What to know before you hang.
Weight Support
Each ceiling mounting point should support a minimum of 300 lbs.
Clearance
Allow approximately 1 ft of clearance around the swing so it has room to move freely.
Ceiling Height
Standard hanging kits accommodate ceilings up to 12 ft. Taller ceilings may require additional rope or hardware.
